Surgical Specialties
Otolaryngologists are head and neck surgeons specializing in the diagnosis and
treatment of the diseases and disorders of the ear, nose, throat and related structures. A commonly used term for this specialty is ENT (ear,
nose and throat).
Gastroenterology or gastrology is the medical specialty concerned
with digestive diseases. Traditionally, these are separated by categories labeled as anatomic or functional.
General Surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on treatment of
abdominal organs/intestines including the esophagus, stomach, colon, liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, hernias and often the thyroid gland
(depending on the availability of head and neck surgery specialists).
Gynecology is the specialty of diseases of the female reproductive
system (uterus, vagina and ovaries).
Orthopedics is a branch of surgery concerned with acute, chronic,
traumatic and overuse injuries, along with other disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons address most
musculoskeletal ailments including arthritis, trauma and congenital deformities using both surgical and non-surgical methods.
Pain Medicine is a branch of anesthetics concerned with the
treatment of acute and chronic pain. Modern pain medicine is individualized, holistic and multidisciplinary, using a wide variety
of drugs as well as physical and psychosocial interventions.
A Podiatrist or podiatric physician is one devoted to the
study and medical treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower extremity by all systems and means.
